Is there anything better than coming home with a new plant? I get all giddy when I start walking toward the plant aisle. I love all of the research about care, finding the perfect accommodations in my home, and seeing the fruits of my labor! Sometimes, literally. I love buying houseplants, seeds for the garden, and vegetable starts. I walked into Smith’s on my lunch break today and was happy to see they’ve already opened their outdoor section! In the very back corner of the outdoor greenhouse section, there was one table of vegetable starts. The starts had two sets of true leaves and they were in trays of 6 for $3.99. I was stoked, I loaded up on brussel sprouts, cauliflower, strawberries and even an artichoke. I’m in zone 6, and March 23rd feels a little risky – but y’all know I like to keep it risky when it comes to the garden. Here are a few other place’s that I’ve scored great deals on plants!
- Grocery stores; Smiths, Dick’s, Walmart
- Facebook Marketplace. There is a lot of garden clean up in the Spring and gardeners list starts, propagated plants, and clippings.
- Buy Nothing Groups. Check out your local Buy Nothing Group and you’ll find plants looking for a new home.
- Etsy.com I was surprised to see so many plants online. You can find great products through the reviews.
- Hardware Stores. Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware stock plants year round. You can always find great deals on the clearance shelf.
